One of the drawbacks is the amount of junk emails received, which used to be in excess of 200 daily. This has been narrowed down to about 20 using special software and keywords. John Schwarz of RK International was therefore rather sceptical about electronically marketing a quantity of unused lathes which were part of a cancelled export order, but wanting value for money, decided to put this latest style of marketing to the test. We gave our brief to UMTN, and placed a prominent advertisement in a leading publication related directly to our trade. Although alot of our business comes form recommendations and word of mouth, wherever possible we try and measure our advertising. We were staggered with our finding, all but two of the machines were sold, and UMTN electronic marketing sold more then double that of the publication."

It is a totally interactive site that changes daily to ensure that it is engaging and the audience is captivated. Undoubtedbly, in the full-ness of time, this form of marketing will replace conventional advetising through trade journals which will probably cease to exist within the next few years. The reality now is that your customers do not have the time or inclination to ferret through trade publications to see whats available. the UMTN site provides instant and up-to-date information on machines for sale today. Once sold, they are removed fromthe site, unlike trade publications where machines seem to remain at delaers for weeks, months, even years!! To get the best from this site, all dealers need to do is to upload a brief description and a photo of the machine. However, you must be sensible with your pricing as the world is changing every day. Its better to sell a machine with a slightly reduced profit then keep it, hoping for more. If you overprice the machine the only place it will end up is on the scrap heap or on the antiques roadshow!!"

Having now worked with the personnel involved at UMTN since its' conception and achieving results (3 machine sales in the last 3 weeks alone) I have realised they are a very powerful sales tool. The 'specials' page is partoculary powerful.
At present the downturn in the manufacturing industry means margins right through the supply chain are being squeezed. As long as I can continue to source machines at realistic prices, place them as a 'special' on the site and work on margins similiar to an auctioneer and have them sold literally overnight then I shall continue to do so into the future. The buyers, of course, are receiving excellent value for money but then I guess that is why the site is receiving increasing traffic and transforming it into business."

Having heard about the UMTN website we decided to check it out. After loging on it was surprising how quickly all the information loaded, considering our experience of other websites. Hundreds of machines became instantly available. Since the machines were listed under relevant subheadings it allowed the search to be narrowed down quickly and easily. Scanning down the revised list of machines specifications (together with photographs) we enquired on the machines of interest.
Within 24 hours the full specification and price for 7 machines were emailed direct to us by the dealers who owned them. With the variety and volume of machines to choose from we are confident that the price we will pay will be competitive. The project’ could now be confidently quoted and we now await the outcome, safe in the knowledge that the right machine with the help of UMTN would be easy to purchase.
